Transparency/opacity
Most Rembrandt Water Colour tones are very transparent because of the use of pure gum arabic and the pigments chosen. A few colours are slightly less transparent because of the specific pigment used, such as cadmium colours. Nevertheless, since water colours are usually heavily diluted, this will be scarcely visible. These less transparent colours are marked with a

WATER COLOURS HAVE ATTRACTED A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION FOR A LONG TIME BOTH FROM PROFESSIONALS AND AMATEURS. THE SPECIFIC QUALITIES OF THIS TYPE OF MEDIUM MEANS THAT THE FINISHED WORK HAS A VERY SPECIAL QUALITY. REMBRANDT ARTIST QUALITY WATER COLOURS ARE A POPULAR CHOICE AMONG WATERCOLOURISTS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. NO WONDER IN TESTS REMBRANDT WATER COLOUR EMERGES AS THE BEST CHOICE OF ALL. ALL REMBRANDT ARTIST QUALITY WATER COLOURS HAVE MAXIMUM TRANSPARENCY SO THAT ALL LAYERS OF THE PAINTING REMAIN VISIBLE AND A VERY IMPRESSIVE WATER COLOUR EFFECT IS GUARANTEED. IN ADDITION, EACH COLOUR HAS ITS OWN INDIVIDUAL AND UNIQUE FORMULA, WHICH ENSURES THAT THE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH PIGMENT ARE EXPLORED TO THE FULL.

The high concentration of pigments used and the particularly fine grinding ensures that the colours maintain their brilliance even when diluted with large quantities of water. By using the purest pigments and the purest gum arabic all colours retain their brilliance when mixed.

Because of the very high degree of lightfastness work retains its original sparkling colour and value at all times. All colours have the highest degree of lightfastness (+++) except the two traditional madder colours (no. 326 and 331). Because of their specific pigment qualities they have a lower degree of lightfastness (+).

SPECIAL COLOURS IN THE RANGE
In the well balanced Rembrandt artist quality water colour range of 80 artist quality colours there are both traditional and contemporary colours. A number of striking special colours include:

Transparent Titanium White
For applying a very transparent veil-like layer.

Genuine Cadmium and Cobalt Colours
Durable colours, traditionally used because of their high level of lightfastness. Because of the specific pigment used, Cobalt and Cadmium are less transparent than other colours in the range.

Very lightfast and transparent yellows and reds
Azo Yellows, Permanent Yellows and Permanent Reds are very lightfast and very transparent alternatives to the traditional Cadmium artist quality colours.

Permanent Madders
Apart from the traditional, very pure but only moderately lightfast madder colours you will find lightfast alternatives in the Rembrandt Watercolour range. They can be recognised by the word 'permanent' in front of the colour name.

Phthalo Blues
Intense blues in both reddish and greenish versions. For producing very intense mixed tones.

Transparent Iron Oxides
A range of extremely transparent and lightfast earth colours. They are well known for their warm effect, especially as a topcoat glaze.

Granulating colours
To make their work even more vivid some water colourists use granulating colours. The pigment particles in these colours have a tendency to gather in the structure of the paper, giving a textured grainy effect. For this, use the Cobalt Colours, (French) Ultramarine or Green Earth.

PACKAGING
